Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has emerged as a shock contender to replace Vincent Kompany at Burnley.

Lampard has been out of work since leaving Chelsea last summer after a disastrous second spell.

Talks are reportedly at an early stage, with Burnley looking to make plans for their return to the Championship.

Kompany left the Clarets to join Bayern Munich earlier this month, with Craig Bellamy having been named as the club's acting head coach.

If Lampard takes the Burnley job, he'll be under significant pressure, as the Clarets aim to bounce back to the Premier League right away after their relegation.

They're considered one of the top contenders for promotion from the Championship, along with teams like Leeds United, Middlesbrough, and Coventry City.
