Current and future Super Eagles stars are set to entertain this weekend in Europe’s top leagues

As with every weekend of European football, Nigerian stars are set to light up the major leagues.

Here are the top five Super Eagles stars to keep an eye out for in the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 this weekend.

Ademola Lookman — Bologna vs Atalanta

Atalanta have been under the cosh in recent times, especially with Nigerian fans for their treatment of Ballon d’Or nominee Ademola Lookman in their last two games.

Against Arsenal in the Champions League, Matteo Retegui was preferred to Lookman on penalty duties and missed, while against Como, the Nigerian was not afforded a start, even though he later came off the bench to score in the 3-2 loss.

La Dea will be looking to avoid aggravating the Super Eagles star’s fan base again when they take on Bologna in the Champions League this weekend, with Lookman expected to be impactful from the start against last season’s surprise team.

Tosin Adarabioyo — Chelsea vs Brighton

Newly converted Super Eagles star Tosin Adarabioyo will be hoping to continue his impressive form with Chelsea when they take on Brighton on Saturday.

Adarabioyo has been spotted severally wearing the Super Eagles colours.

After a shaky start to life at Stamford Bridge, Adarabioyo has played himself into Chelsea’s starting line up.

After helping the Blues to back-to-back clean sheets against Bournemouth and West Ham, the former Fulham star looks set for another starting berth after being rested during the EFL Cup game against Barrow.

Tosin Adarabioyo recently joined Chelsea from Fulham.

Adarabioyo will be hoping to impress yet again for Chelsea as Nigeria’s Super Eagles get set to announce their first squad since his rumoured international switch.

George Ilenikhena — AS Monaco vs Montpellier

Nigerian-born teenager George Ilenikhena announced himself to the Monaco faithful with a late winner in the UEFA Champions League against the mighty Barcelona and is looking to continue in that stride.

After netting the decider in Monaco’s first Champions League match of the season against their famous visitors, Ilenikhena followed up that performance with an assist in his next game in Ligue 1 and could go three consecutive games with a goal contribution if he gets on the scoresheet this weekend.

Monaco host Montpellier, who are two points away from being bottom of Ligue 1 and have already conceded 15 goals in their opening five league fixtures, making them easy prey for the Super Eagles hopeful to pounce on.

Alex Iwobi — Nottingham Forest vs Fulham

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has been instrumental for Fulham this season, proving that again with an assist in the Cottagers’ 3-1 win over Newcastle United in the last game week.

Iwobi will be hoping for another impactful outing for Fulham on Saturday when they travel to Nottingham Forest in a match that will feature at least three Nigerians.

In addition to Iwobi, Fulham also boast Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey and the pair will be up against Nottingham Forest featuring compatriots Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Victor Boniface — Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen

Over in Germany, Victor Boniface and his Bundesliga defending champions Bayer Leverkusen face the toughest test of their campaign as they travel to perennial German champions Bayern Munich.

Boniface was on hand to score a stoppage time winner for Bayer Leverkusen in their last Bundesliga fixture, a 4-3 win over Wolfsburg to take his tally for the season to three goals in four league games.

Bayer Leverkusen will be looking up to the skillful Nigerian forward to keep up his scoring ratio as they face an unbeaten Bayern Munich, hoping to close the three-point gap between both teams at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
