Thank you Jesus: Super Eagles star Iwobi celebrates ruthless win with a plate of fufu & egusi soup
Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi took to Instagram after their Emirates FA Cup win against Watford.
The match began with West Ham taking control early on, as they quickly established a two-goal lead. Carlos Soler opened the scoring in the 31st minute after capitalising on a defensive error from Fulham's Andreas Pereira.
Just two minutes later, Tomas Soucek doubled the advantage, putting the Hammers in a commanding position.
Fulham responded after halftime when Iwobi found the net in the 51st minute. His cross aimed at Raúl Jiménez inadvertently deceived West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and crept into the goal.
However, West Ham quickly restored their two-goal cushion through Lucas Paquetá, who scored after a mistake by Fulham's goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
Iwobi struck again in the 78th minute with another goal that mirrored his first, narrowing the gap to 3-2. Despite a late surge from Fulham, including a missed opportunity from Adama Traore that could have levelled the game, West Ham held on for the victory.
After the match, Fulham's manager Marco Silva expressed his frustration regarding the outcome.
He noted, “When you make mistakes like we did, it’s very difficult to win football matches. There was only one team that was on the pitch trying to win the game until we conceded that first goal that we gave them.” S
Silva's comments show his disappointment at losing their nine-match unbeaten streak and highlight the team's need to minimise errors moving forward.
This match not only marked a turning point for West Ham under Potter but also a reminder of Iwobi's growing influence and form this season, despite his team's setback.
