And in a swift take of action, FUFA has suspended all matches involving Express until the culprits get apprehended.

Local football custodian FUFA has banned, with immediate effect, all Express Football Club matches after incidents that had assistant referee Fahad Sekayiba beaten.

Following Friday's 1-1 Uganda Premier League stalemate between Express and UPDF at the Bombo Military Barracks, the former's fans reportedly staged an attack on Sekayiba, beating and brutally injuring him in the process.

It has been reported that disgruntled supporters staged a roadblock at Matugga, where they pulled the referee out of the car and pounced on him, leaving him for dead before he was taken to hospital.

And in a swift take of action, FUFA has suspended all matches involving Express until the culprits get apprehended.

"The FUFA Executive Committee has suspended all matches involving Express FC with immediate effect until an amicable solution on the safety and security of referees is found following ugly scenes of their Uganda Premier League match against UPDF," FUFA said in a statement.

This decision comes at a time when all match officials under their body, the Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) decided to lay down tools for Express matches, and FUFA has thus backed them.

"Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) has consequently decided that their members (Referees) shall not be available for matches involving Express FC."

"Express FC shall be required to co-operate with investigations by FUFA and the authorities in order to identify the culprits alleged to have assaulted the referee after the game."

"FUFA took the decision in the best interest of football and see that the culprits are brought to book," the statement summed.

Following the hideous events, FUFA President Moses Magogo vowed to hunt down the offenders, stressing they would serve as examples for the rest.

Meanwhile, in their own statement, Express has since denied any involvement in the attacks on Sekayiba and promised to assist the authorities in investigations.
