FOOTBALL FUFA confirms Uganda Cranes friendly with African giants

While the Cranes are still coach-less after the sacking of Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic, they will take on the Eagles on October 13 at the Stade du 26 Mars - Bamako in Mali.

Football custodians in Uganda, FUFA, have confirmed an international friendly match between the Cranes and West African powerhouse Mali in the next FIFA international break.

While the Cranes are still coach-less after the sacking of Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic, they will take on the Eagles on October 13 at the Stade du 26 Mars - Bamako in Mali.

"FUFA confirms that the National Football Senior team, the Uganda Cranes, will utilize the FIFA international break in October by lining up an international friendly with Mali," a FUFA statement on Thursday said.

As the search continues, it still awaits whether FUFA will have found a new head coach or, instead, an interim figure.

"With the search for a new head coach for Uganda Cranes ongoing, FUFA has continued with the technical preparations of the team."

Uganda Cranes starting lineup that beat Niger in the 2023 Africa Cup of nations qualifier.

The game is set to be a precursor for the team as they gear up for the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Guinea slated for November 13.

It should be noted that the friendly against the one-time AFCON champions (1972) will provide the perfect test to the Cranes as the former are ranked a decent 49th in the world.

Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania were yesterday handed the mantle to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

With qualification to 2027 AFCON assured for the Cranes, they must build a worthy team that will compete, and preparations will get underway instantly.
