FUFA sanctioned St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende and the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo to play matches under the floodlights this season.

FUFA has released a set of rules and regulations to govern the use of floodlights during night games in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The federation sanctioned St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende and the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo to play matches under the floodlights this season.

According to the new FUFA regulations, Uganda Premier League matches that start after 5 PM or those that start early but go beyond 6 PM will be categorised under night matches.

Therefore, any club intending to play matches under floodlights during those specified periods will be required to get a Flood Lights Certificate issued by the federation.

Maintain standards

FUFA has promised to conduct regular inspections to ensure that the standards remain maintained throughout the season.

If, at any point, the lights fail during an ongoing match, the referee shall suspend the match for up to 30 minutes or when the lights can be restored or abandon the match if the situation persists beyond that period.

In case investigations prove that the failure of the lights was due to an avoidable circumstance by the host, the host team shall lose the match by forfeiture and face further disciplinary measures.

The same will be applied if the away team is found guilty of an action leading to the fault.

75%-rule

In case the failure was due to an unavoidable circumstance and the match had been played for less than 75% of the playing time, the match will be rescheduled by the organisers to be continued for the remaining minutes.

If the match had been played for more than that time and the results were to benefit the home club, the captains of both clubs may agree to consider the standing result as final.

In case there’s no agreement, the match will be rescheduled and continued for the remaining minutes.
