Gary Neville has given a perfect response to Arsenal supporters demanding his expulsion from the Emirates.

Following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday, Mikel Arteta was furious about a number of hotly debated decisions.

Arteta was angry with the decision made by the VAR and the referee following Anthony Gordon's controversial goal.

Several replays from the goal were evaluated by VAR referees, with three different incidents considered to have happened leading to the goal.

Neville’s response

Arteta called VAR an "absolute disgrace." before Arsenal responded with a strong statement, endorsing his harsh criticism and urging referees to improve on Sunday.

Subsequently, Sky Sports pundit Neville and colleague Jamie Carragher criticised the club's announcement; Neville said it ought to have been made in private.

He wrote on social media as reported by the Sun, “Arsenal’s letter and even the Liverpool statement a few weeks ago (they had a genuine bad one v them) are wrong. Do it privately.

“If I was Howard Webb I would stop apologising to them and get on with it. Managers and players make far more mistakes than refs!”

A furious Arsenal supporter, however, took exception at the two's evaluation and responded, “Arsenal should just tell Sky Sports that both Carragher & Neville are both banned from The Emirates.

"It’s our property so we’ll invite who we want inside it. Thank you very much.”

However, Neville quickly recognized the irony and seized the chance to make light of the fact that Tottenham, Arsenal's neighbours in North London, are now two points ahead of them in second place in the standings.

He replied, “To be fair with Spurs top now we will be coming less anyway.”

If Tottenham defeats Chelsea at home on Monday, they might take back the top spot and move two points ahead of Manchester City.
