'Simiti' is adamant Gor Mahia's loss to Kenya Police last week after such a long stretch of games without losing is a testament of their strong character.

Gor Mahia Vice Captain Geoffrey ‘Simiti’ Ochieng is optimistic that the club have put their 3-1 defeat to Kenya Police behind them as they aim at clinching a second consecutive league title under Johnathan McKinstry.

K’Ogalo lost 3-1 to Police at the Police Sacco Stadium last Saturday, bringing an end to their 20-game unbeaten run and ending their hopes of winning a third league title unbeaten.

However, they maintain a considerable eight-point gap at the top of the table ahead of their weekend clash against Ulinzi Stars this weekend.

Speaking to Pulse Sports ahead of hosting Ulinzi, Ochieng’ revealed that the club had done well to maintain such a long stretch of games without losing (including their last win last season against City Stars in June).

“We were on a good run but when we lost that game, it was not a good feeling,” Ochieng’ said.

“Of course, when you lose after having such a good run, it hurt. It was not good but it happened but now we have to focus on what is next .”

Comparing the current season's performance to the previous one, Ochieng noted that the team is only one point ahead.

However, he expressed gratitude for the hard work displayed by the players, recognizing the progress made.

“It shows we have a strong mentality. If you look at our run last season and then compare it to the one we have this season, we are ahead by just one point which people may not realise.

“We are grateful because it shows people are working hard. If you get a point better, it shows we are making a lot of progress.”

Ochieng believed the league race is still far away from being certified and that his teammates must have no room for complacency.

“We cannot say that we have won the league right now. There are 14 games to go and there are alot of points to be won or lost, so we have to try and win as many games as possible.

Ochieng's positive outlook reflects the determination within the Gor Mahia camp to overcome challenges, learn from setbacks, and maintain their lead in the league standings.

The upcoming clash against Ulinzi Stars provides an opportunity for redemption and a chance for the team to continue their pursuit of another league title.
