While 14 teams have already booked their spots, ten places are still up for grabs, adding an extra layer of excitement to the remaining qualifying matches scheduled for September 2023.

The road to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is taking shape with up to 14 nations securing their spots at the finals to be held in Ivory Coast after matchday five of the qualification campaign.

With Uganda drawing out the proverbial calculators, as they will have to wait for the final qualification match round to seal their qualification fate for the 2023 AFCON.

A 2-1 defeat to Algeria at Cameroon’s Jopama stadium on Sunday, coming after neighbours Tanzania had secured a narrow 1-0 win over Niger in the other Group F encounter means that the Cranes’ destiny is now out of their hands.

The Taifa Stars are now second in the group, three points ahead of the Cranes, who travel to Niger, while Tanzania plays Algeria who have already qualified for the finals with a perfect record.

Zambia dominated the headlines with a stellar performance in front of their home crowd in Ndola.

The Chipolopolo secured an impressive 3-0 victory against tournament hosts and former African champions, Cote d'Ivoire.

Zambia who were crowned champions in Gabon 2012, will make a triumphant return to the Africa Cup of Nations after an eight-year absence.

Record AFCON winners Egypt, confirmed their place with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Guinea in Marrakech.

Equatorial Guinea also caused a major upset by defeating Tunisia 1-0, securing their ticket for the Africa Cup of Nations for the second consecutive time.

Cape Verde showcased their strength with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Burkina Faso, solidifying their place among the qualified nations.

Mali triumphed with a 2-0 win against Congo, showcasing their prowess on the field and cementing their spot for the AFCON finals.

Nigeria left it late with a thrilling last-minute goal, sealing a 3-2 victory against Sierra Leone and securing their qualification.

This win also confirmed Guinea Bissau's fourth consecutive appearance at the AFCON as the edged Sao Tome and Príncipe 1-0.

These teams will join the previously qualified nations, including hosts Cote d'Ivoire, African champions Senegal, FIFA World Cup semi-finalists Morocco, former champions Tunisia and Algeria, South Africa, and Burkina Faso, who have all earned their places in the tournament earlier this year.

The 2023 AFCON to be hosted by Ivory Coast is set to take place from 13th January to 11th February 2024.

The tournament will be hosted across six venues, including the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara and Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny in Abidjan, providing the perfect backdrop for the clash of Africa's footballing elite.
