Many have been calling for Olunga to test himself in the European top five leagues.

Having enjoyed impressive sojourns in Sweden and Spain with Djurgårdens and Girona respectively, red-hot Michael Olunga has shut down a return to Europe as he is fully focused on Al Duhail.

Olunga is having a memorable season with Al Duhail as he has already clinched the Qatari Stars Cup and is currently second on the league’s top scorers chart with 14 goals and has already bagged the Qatari Stars Cup Golden Boot.

The 29-year-old was linked with a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe in the summer transfer window but the move failed to materialize as Olunga opted to stay in the well-moneyed Qatari league.

In an interview with The Peninsula, Olunga was asked about making a return to Europe after two initial spells with Swedish side Djurgårdens and Spain’s Girona but he shut down the talks.

“The only thing I can think of is scoring goals for Al Duhail. That is my main priority,” said the former Gor Mahia forward.

With his blistering form for club and country European sides are likely to tempt Olunga with a move as Scottish giants Rangers were previously being put on notice to sign the forward.

The former Kashiwa Reysol forward maintained that he is still hungry for trophies at Duhail this season despite losing the Emir Cup on penalties.

“It’s football. Sometimes it happens, and a penalty shootout is nobody’s game. As much as we wanted to win, we didn’t manage to, so we just put it behind us.

We have the league to focus on, and if we can manage to take it, it will be three trophies for the season,” said Olunga.

Olunga extended his red-hot form for Harambee Stars back in March as he netted in the 2-1 loss to Iran in an international friendly to take his goals for Kenya to 21 in 48 games.

The Harambee Stars captain claimed that winning the league title for the club for the first time since 2020 would be better than retaining his Golden Boot gong.

“The important thing is to look at the team’s collective efforts. So, I will look at how I can help my team become champions because we didn’t become champions in the last two years. I will feel much more proud to have the QSL title than the top scorer title,” he added.

“When you play for a big team like Al Duhail, they expect you to become among the best scorers, if not the best. With big responsibilities come big players as well. You have to take responsibility, and that’s what I’m trying to do for Al Duhail,” concluded Olunga.
