After 70 years, Real Madrid is set to rename Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid is reportedly considering a significant change to its iconic stadium, potentially renaming the Santiago Bernabeu for the first time in nearly 70 years.

According to a report from Marca, the club is exploring the possibility of shortening the stadium's name to simply "The Bernabeu."

The motivation behind this potential change is said to be driven by commercial and marketing considerations.

The Santiago Bernabeu name has been in place since January 4, 1955, serving as a tribute to the club's esteemed former player, manager, and president, Santiago Bernabeu.

Under his nearly 35-year presidency, Real Madrid achieved remarkable success, winning six European Cups, 16 La Liga titles, six Copa del Rey trophies, and numerous other accolades.

Bernabeu's influence extended beyond the club, famously offering support to Manchester United in rebuilding their team after the tragic Munich air disaster in 1958.

The stadium itself has become a global icon in the world of sports, synonymous with Real Madrid's rich history and legendary status. Therefore, any change to its name would be a significant move.

While the report from Marca has sparked discussion, Real Madrid has yet to officially comment on the matter.

Fans and observers await an official statement from the club to confirm or deny the potential renaming.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti's team is set to resume La Liga action on January 3 with an away fixture against Valencia.
