Good news for Augustine Eguavoen as Super Eagles star recovers from injury ahead of AFCON qualifiers

Augustine Eguavoen has received a major boost ahead of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Super Eagles are set to face the Republic of Benin and Rwanda this month to finalise their place in the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Eguavoen’s team are currently leading the Group D table with 10 points from their last four games.

However, despite the team’s performance, the head coach has struggled with injuries to key players in the squad.

Moses Simon recovers from injury

According to allnigeriasoccer.com, Moses Simon is expected to play again for Nantes after recovering from a knee injury.

The Super Eagles winger's knee issues prevented him from playing in Nantes' 3-1 loss to Strasbourg on Sunday.

Simon's absence was noticeable in the Canaries' failure to generate scoring opportunities during the defeat to Strasbourg.

The winger is back to full fitness and will be ready to play on Sunday when Nantes plays Marseille.

Given how crucial the winger is to the team, Nantes coach Antoine would likely be most thrilled with his return.

Simon's availability for Nigeria's forthcoming AFCON qualifiers against Rwanda and the Benin Republic in November will also be a relief to Eguavoen.

The 29-year-old Nigerian international has made eight appearances in Ligue 1 this season, tallying two goals and dishing out three assists.

In addition, he surpassed the late Emiliano Sala's record of 29 assists, breaking Nantes' club record for most assists since promotion to Ligue 1 in 2013, solidifying his place as a vital member of the squad.
