Mathare United have handed punishments to four of their players after they participated in an unsanctioned match, putting the spotlight on other teams whose stars were also involved.
While Gor Mahia still mull over how to punish their errant players who featured in an unsanctioned match, FKF Premier League rivals Mathare United have already cracked the whip.
Mathare have suspended four players Kevin Kimani, Elli Asieche, Brian Ouru and Eric Mulu with immediate effect for featuring in an amateur tournament when the season is ongoing.
“The club has taken disciplinary action against four players, suspending them with immediate effect for two weeks without pay for breach of contract. They are Kevin Kimani, Elli Asieche, Brian Ouru and Eric Mulu,” the club said through a statement posted on social media.

A Mosquito FC bites back at claims of luring Gor Mahia players into unsanctioned match as K’Ogalo stars face punishment
A Mosquito FC, who had some Gor Mahia players turn out for them in an amateur match, have distanced themselves from blame even as K’Ogalo consider punishment for their errant stars.
“The four were involved in an unsanctioned match/tournament just days before our matchday six league encounter with Police FC without the knowledge of the club.
“By doing so, they broke several clauses in their contracts, one being that a player, ‘should maintain a high standard of physical fitness at all times and not to indulge in any sport, activity or practice that might endanger their fitness.’”
Mathare’s punishment comes in the wake of the heat generated after a number of Premier League players turned out for amateur teams in a nondescript tournament known to bring together fans from all walks of life.
Gor Mahia coach Leonardo Neiva also cracked the whip on four of his players Paul Ochuoga, Chris Ochieng, Enoch Morrison and Musa Masika, dropping them from the matchday squad before they lost 2-1 to Nairobi City Stars on Monday.
The club has confirmed that disciplinary proceedings have been opened on the players as they weigh how to rein in on their errant behaviour.
"We are considering not paying them for the day they missed on the matchday squad due to their involvement in an unsanctioned tournament. They put themselves in a situation where they could not work on that particular day," Gor Mahia vice chairman Francis Wasuna told Mozzart Sport.
