The creative midfielder will be given a chance to impress when Kenya play Qatar and South Sudan next month.
Gor Mahia’s fleet-footed midfielder Austin Odhiambo has received a late call up to the Harambee Stars squad for their games against 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar and South Sudan later this week.
Odhiambo, who was on song last season in that chief-playmaking role behind Benson Omala as K’Ogalo stormed their way to a historic FKFPL title, will be involved in camp for the second time in his career with an eye on finally making his long awaited debut for Kenya.

The Harambee Stars striker is mourning the loss of his mother
Odhiambo becomes the only Gor Mahia player to make the squad this time, after Benson Omala was involved in the last international outing against Pakistan and Mauritius during the Four Nations Tournament held in the latter country last June.
Who is Austin Odhiambo?
The boy from Baba Dogo, in the South East of Nairobi, was scouted by AFC Leopards in 2016 by then AFC Cubs coach Boniface Ambani and had a very good outing in the KPL under-20 football tournament that was staged at the Camp Toyoyo grounds in Jericho Estate, Nairobi.
He struggled to make the team at first, but he eventually broke through in the 2019 season, which earned him a Harambee Stars call up. He then signed for Gor Mahia for a reported Ksh10 million to replace Azam-bound Kenneth Muguna, whom he has played for ever since.

The former Gor Mahia left back was on song as AIK grabbed crucial three points with a huge win over Varberg.
What has been said about his international career prospects?
Gor coach Johnathan McKinstry has heaped praise on Odhiambo, saying he has the potential “to be Kenya’s best player.”
“I said last week (back in June 2023) in a one on one session with Odhiambo and told him he has the potential to be the best player in Kenya.”
“He only has to believe in himself more. He has that potential and he just has to work for it. You saw moments in the first half (against Ulinzi Stars) where he was exceptional.”
Odhiambo will be hoping to realise McKinstry’s belief in him for the duration of camp next month.
