Kenya U20 defender Faiz Opande debuts for new American club
Kenya U20 star Faiz Opande debuted for Huntsville City FC on Sunday night showing promise despite a 0-1 loss to Chattanooga.
According to sources close to the club, Gor Mahia FC may have generated approximately Ksh 4.5 million from the event.
This figure, however, remains unconfirmed as attempts to get a comment from club vice-chairman Francis Wasuna were unsuccessful. The financial boost comes at a crucial time for the club, which had faced logistical challenges leading up to the derby.
The club had initially planned to host the match at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. However, K'Ogalo negotiated with Sports Kenya to temporarily host the match at Nyayo after the ban that was imposed in November last year, following vandalism by some Gor Mahia fans.
The ban was a response to damages incurred at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani, during a match against newcomers Murang’a Seal, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
