K'Ogalo have arranged the friendly to keep the team fit ahead of the resumption of the FKFPL.
Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) heavyweights, Gor Mahia are set to host Tanzania top-flight side Azam FC in an international friendly match at the Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.
K’Ogalo have organized the match in order to give coach Johnathan McKinstry an opportunity to gauge the players in camp after the league took a break to pave way for the FIFA calendar.
The match was initially set to be played in Dar-es-Salaam before the latest twist, which saw Azam traveling across the border to honor the tie.
Gor Mahia, who are on top of the league table, play Vihiga Bullets on March 29 at home when the league resumes.
K’Ogalo have sent two players to the Harambee Stars squad who are currently preparing to face Iran in an international friendly away in Tehran.
Azam FC are expected to arrive in Nairobi on Friday, three days after their friendly against Zanzibar’s Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi FC in Dar-es-Salaam.
The two-time CECAFA Kagame Cup champions have explained why they are involved in friendly matches despite it being a FIFA international break.
Azam boss Abdulkarim Amin has said they are working round the clock to build a strong side hence the decision to play friendly matches.
“We have our targets for the ongoing season and we need to achieve them. There are five matches remaining and we have to ensure we win them all and finish in the top three positions,” Amin told reporters on Sunday.
The Ice Cream Makers will be without the services of their four key players, namely Kenneth Muguna, Ali Ahamada, Sospeter Bajana, and Abdul Suleiman, who are out on international duty with their national teams.
Muguna received a call-up to the Kenya national team despite having been rarely used by the club in recent matches.
Dani Cadena’s coached outfit is scheduled to face Mtibwa Sugar when their domestic league resumes on April 15.
Azam are currently fourth on the Tanzania Premier League log with 47 points from 25 points.
