Gor Mahia get back into league action this weekend with a showdown against Posta Ranger at the Machakos stadium.

Gor Mahia star Austin Odhiambo has lauded experience gained in K’Ogalo’s CAF Champions League campaign as the team eyes a successful title defense in FKF Premier League.

The defending champions kicked of their season with an announcement of intent, thumbing Mathare United 4-0 on September 28 before the international break as Odhiambo got on the score sheet alongside Shariff Musa, Geoffrey Ochieng and Gedeon Bendeka.

Prior to their league opener match, the Leo Neiva-coached side exited the CAF Champions League after a 6-0 aggregate disaster performance against defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt on September 21.

The Gor Mahia forward has hailed the experience that the team has benefitted from during the campaign, highlighting its importance in their title defence.

“The experience was very nice and it was a privilege going up against the champions of Africa. Because after such a challenge even when you come up against other teams that are not of the same level you can feel the difference in class and it gives you confidence going into any match,” said Odhiambo via the Tiki Taka Show

“They (Al Ahly) have invested so much in football. They have taken football more seriously than us here Kenya. That’s the difference between them and us. With them they’ve built for over 20 years and for us just the other day we had a CAF ban,” he added.

The Egyptian giants have so far gone ahead to secure qualification to the CAF Champions' League group stages where they have been pooled with Orlando Pirates CR Belouizdad and Stade d'Abidjan in group C.

Meanwhile Odhiambo has urged the Mahia's enthusiastic supporters to expect to lift the title in May as they intend to give a strong account of themselves.

“The only thing Mahia fans can be happy with is if we are champions again and that’s what I’m looking forward to,” expressed Odhiambo.

K’Ogalo are looking to bag their record 22nd title this season and their resolve will be tested by Posta Rangers when the two meet at the Machakos Stadium on Saturday October 19 in league action.
