Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala aspires to secure a lasting spot in the Harambee Stars squad.

Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala has his sights set on leading the line for Harambee Stars regularly.

The 22-year-old goal-poacher earned his second call-up to the Harambee Stars under head coach Engin Firat's team following his outstanding performance in the colors of K'Ogalo, having so far netted seven goals for his club this season.

Omala is determined to keep on impressing the coaches so that he can maintain a spot in the national team.

"I want to give my best and remain in the national team. To achieve this, it's best to compete with the top strikers from Kenya who are playing abroad, as I want to learn from them. So, I'm doing the right things," he said.

The young striker is eager to solidify his place in the national team and recognizes the pressure that comes with it.

"There is always pressure, so as a player, you have to know how to handle it. What inspires me is my background," he concluded.

Before his recent call-up, Firat had preferred Michael Olunga, Masud Juma, Elvis Rupia, and Moses Shummah in the striking roles, ahead of Omala.

In defense of his decision to overlook Omala for Harambee Stars' friendly match against Iran on March 28, Firat stated that being a top scorer does not necessarily earn one a place in the national team.

"Look around the world, is it a guarantee that if you are a top scorer you will play in the national team?" Firat said.

"Benson is unlucky because we have Juma (Masoud), Michael Olunga, so it is not easy for them to come in. This is why I said 'do not push these boys, let them develop.'"

Omala was not named in the Harambee Stars squad that played to a 2-2 draw with Russia in an international friendly in Turkey.

He was also not part of the team that lost 1-0 to South Sudan on September 12 in Nairobi and the 2-1 victors over Qatar in Doha on September 7.

Omala also failed to play in the match against Gabon where Kenya lost 2-1 in the opener of the World Cup qualifiers despite being included in the final squad.

The lethal Gor Mahia hitman's international experience has been limited to just one cap, which came during his debut in a 1-0 loss to Mauritius at the Four Nations Tournament in Mauritius on June 18.
