Kanu Nwankwo’s Elephants have failed to win their last six matches across competitions.
Enyimba’s Struggles
The Elephant's woes continued after a 3-0 defeat to the Black Bulls in the CAF Confederation Cup, CAFCC, leaving them without a win in the competition.
Black Bulls’ defeat was quickly followed by travel issues which left the team stranded in Maputo for days, leading to the postponement of their league match against Nasarawa United.
Upon finally resuming action in the NPFL against Plateau United, Enyimba played out a goalless affair in Jos, extending their winless streak to nine matches, which include seven draws and two losses.
Consequently, as a result of these results, Enyimba have slipped away from the title race and down to 11th place in the league table with 23 points from a possible 45.
With continental football looking unlikely next season for the Elephants at this stage of the competition, it is a cause for concern for supporters of the club, who are beginning to ask questions.
Enyimba host Bendel Insurance next week at home in Aba and the fans and club management led by Kanu will be hopeful that the sleeping giants will make home advantage count to break the frustrating run.
With pressure on the 32-year-old coach, Olanrewaju, who was tasked with leading the club earlier this season after the departure of his former boss Finidi George, Enyimba desperately need a turnaround in fortune to regain their status as one of Nigeria’s biggest clubs.
