According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, City will have to cough out a whopping €100m for the 21-year-old, which would make him the most expensive defender in history.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Champions League winners will have to pay a fee in the region of €100m for the Croatian.

Gvardiol will be coming in as a replacement for Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte after an injury blighted campaign at the Etihad.

Romano told CaughtOffside that Bundesliga side RB Leipzig want to make Gvardiol the most expensive defender in the world.

“More than €80m, the most expensive centre-back in the history of the game, this is the idea of RB Leipzig.

“I’m not sure €80m or €85m will be enough. Sources close to Leipzig believe it could be around €100m to sign Gvardiol this summer.”
