Guinea-Bissau 0-1 Nigeria -As it happened: Super Eagles advance to the AFCON 2023 knockout stage

Follow the action as the Super Eagles of Nigeria beat Guinea-Bissau 1-0 to finish second in Group A of the ongoing AFCON 2023.

• Equatorial Guinea top the group with seven points, tied with Nigeria but they edge it on goal difference while the Ivorians are third with very slender hopes of qualifying as one of the four best third-place teams.

• There is an extraordinary scoreline in the second game where Equatorial Guinea have absolutely pummelled the hosts 4-0. A brace for Emilio Nsue who now stands alone as the top scorer with five goals.

• FULLTIME Guinea-Bissau 0-1 Nigeria, many goals were scored but only one counted. An own goal by Opa Sangante in the first half sealed the deal for the Super Eagles.

• 83' The Super Eagles go right up the other end and score but Zaidu Sanusi's goal is ruled out for offside as well. We've had quite a lot of those in this game so far.

• 82' Guinea-Bissau thought they had scored but the goal has been ruled out for a marginal offside. It stays 1-0 Nigeria.

• 80' Hige goalmouth scramble ensues for Nigeria involving Moses Simon and Victor Osimhen. Neither of them can convert. It stays 1-0.

• 77' BIG CHANCE MISSED again!!! Victor Osimhen fails to convert yet another free header in the box and the chance goes begging for the Super Eagles.

• 72' Cooling break after a frenetic second half so far, a break is much needed for the players to refresh.

• 63' Substition - Raphael Onyedika replaces Frank Onyeka while Alex Iwobi comes on for Joe Aribo as the Super Eagles look to extend their advantage.

• The goal does not stand but the infringement is handball by Osimhen just before scoring rather than offside as initially called.

• 55' Victor Osimhen again rises highes and connects with a header but fails to direct it goalwards

• The Super Eagles continue to dominate the early proceedings in the second half with Osimhen becoming more and more involved.

• BIG CHANCE MISSED FOR NIGERIA! Samuel Chukwueze plays Moses Simon through on goal but the Nantes winger couldn't take advantage.

• 45' The second half kicks off and the Super Eagles are instantly on the front foot, they need to win by at least three goals to top the group if Equatorial Guinea beats Ivory Coast.

• HALFTIME Guinea-Bissau 0-1 Nigeria. Equatorial Guinea also lead Ivory Coast by a goal to nil.

• Kenneth Omeruo switched play beautifully from defence and his pass was diverted by Ola Aina who headed it down first time for Moses Simon at the edge of the box after which the winger squared the ball with intent to find Victor Osimhen for a simple finish but Sangate intervened and finished on his behalf.

• 37' GOALLLLLL!!! NIGERIA LEAD!!!!!! Opa Sangante blasts the ball into his own net to finish off a great Super Eagles team move. Extremely unfortunate for the defender.

• 27' Samuel Chukwueze appeals for a penalty as his pass is intercepted by a Guinea-Bissau arm but his appeals are ignored by the referee. It remains goalless here.

• 20' Joe Aribo fires Nigeria's first shot on target which is deflected safely into the grateful hands of Jonas Mendes in the Guinea-Bissau goal.

• Guinea-Bissau have started this game on the front foot albeit without creating any clear cut chances just yet but this is not a good sign for the Super Eagles 10 minutes in.
