Manchester City's Erling Haaland explained to reporters the reason behind his current scoring form.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has provided insight into why he is back on his ridiculously high-scoring form.

The 24-year-old striker set a Premier League goalscoring record with his first season in the English top flight, as he became the first player in the division to win the Golden Boot with as many as 36 goals.

However, he had a steep drop off the following season, scoring nine fewer goals in the Premier League. The former Molde man is seemingly back to his terrifying best now, and a hat-trick in consecutive games, with the most recent coming today in a 3-1 victory over West Ham, has placed him on seven league goals in only three games.

It has also meant he has scored more goals than he has played games in the Premier League, earning him comparisons with some of the greatest strikers in the division's history

What Haaland said

Speaking after the match, the once Premier League champion explained the reason for his return to prolific form.

“Three points is the most important thing so I'm happy. I feel good; I feel energised. I had a long vacation and pre-season. I feel good,” the Norwegian striker said, per the BBC. “The years I've been here have been really fast. Now I've got some rest in my body and my feet. Now I'm ready for more.

"Only footballers know how important it is to have a break. You need to calm your body and mind down because it's a long season. It's not as easy as people think. I feel fresh and that's the most important thing.

"I feel more refreshed, more energised. When you do that, you can practice some things you want to get better at outside of training. I feel good and I'm happy.

"Three games, nine points—it's a great start. Let's not get too far ahead because there are potentially 70 more games this season. Let's take it game by game."
