New manager Hansi Flick makes fresh promises to Barcelona after embarrassing defeat to Monaco.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has sent a message to fans of the club after they suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Monaco in the Joan Gamper.
The Gamper is Barcelona's traditional curtain-raiser for the new season, and it coincided with Flick's first home game as a Blaugrana coach. He, however, failed his first test in front of the home crowd, as his team were spanked by Les Rouge et Blanc.

Barcelona lose to Monaco
The first-half of the match was scoreless, as Flick’s side struggled to impose themselves in the final third. Monaco coped with Barcelona's offensive qualities with minimal fuss and proved a threat going the other way.
The visitors scored immediately after returning from the break when Lamine Camara poked the ball off Marc Bernal before finishing between Marc Andre Ter Stegen.
Breel Embolo made it two in the 56th minute after an eye-of-the-needle pass from Japanese forward Takumi Minamino. Christian Mawissa made it three late in the game, further compounding Barcelona’s woes.
What Flick said
After the game, the German tactician sent a message directly to fans of the club, promising them an improved showing in the league opener against Valencia at the Mestalla.
“I know what the team is capable of. Today was not our game. We will play differently in Valencia. I am sure we will do better,” Flick said, per Football Espana.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have been making an effort in the transfer window to improve Flick’s chances of silverware next season. However, their prime target, Nico Williams, is set to stay put at Athletic Club after he was recently handed the number 10 jersey.
