Harambee Stars goalkeeper trainer Jerim Onyango was celebrated in great fashion by the players and his fellow coaches as he celebrated his 39th birthday.
The former Gor Mahia captain was surprised by a birthday cake at the team’s hotel in Abidjan, Ivory Coast where they are currently camping ahead of their second 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Seychelles on Monday.

Onyango did a little jig before he cut the cake and shared it with the rest of the squad after head coach Engin Firat had smeared some of it's icing on his face.
Onyango is a member of Firat’s technical bench and responsible for tuning the goalkeepers with Patrick Matasi of Kenya Police, Joseph Ochuka of Bandari, and Zesco United’s Ian Otieno the shot-stoppers currently in camp.

Michael Olunga has revealed what it is like to be playing week in and out with Brazilian superstar Philippe Coutinho.

Onyango moved into coaching after hanging his gloves with Gor Mahia in 2016, handling the team’s youth side before moving to the national team setup two years later.
He served as the U16 goalkeeping coach before he was promoted to handle the U20 and U23 sides in 2020 and 2021, respectively after which he joined Firat’s side. Onyango also serves as the goalkeeper trainer for FKF Premier League side Bandari FC.
The former KRA goalkeeper played for Gor Mahia from 2008, captaining them to three straight Kenyan Premier League titles between 2013 and 2015.
