Omurwa failed to feature in Estrela's loss to Liverpool-linked Ruben Amorim's Sporting Lisbon on Friday night.

Harambee Stars defender Johnstone Omurwa was left out of the Estrela Amadora side for the seventh league game in a row as they fell short 2-1 to Sporting Lisbon, whose manager Ruben Amorim has heavily been linked with the Liverpool job.

Omurwa, who has played in 15 league games this season, played in back to back matches for Kenya against Malawi and Zimbabwe in the just concluded international window, and completed 90 minutes in both matches.

He is back to full fitness, but may have been rested after traveling back to Portugal on Wednesday with the game taking place on Friday.

He has made a combined 2.7 tackles and interceptions per 90 minutes, as well as made 4.5 ball recoveries per match. He averagely wins 3.4 total duels a match.

Omurwa is also very active in possession. FBRef puts him in the 92nd percentile for carries from the back, and in the 86th one for take-ons, showing his willingness to launch attacks from the back.

Omurwa's ability to read the game, make crucial tackles, and contribute offensively has made him a player to watch

In the 16th minute, a corner for the Tricolours was inadvertently deflected into the net by Bucca, giving Estrela  the lead after a rebound.

The match was filled with action, and in the 23rd minute, Trincão orchestrated a brilliant play down the right flank of the green and white attack, setting up Paulinho for an easy finish in the Estrela Amadora penalty area, leveling the score.

Then, in the 40th minute, Trincão spearheaded another offensive move for the lions, forcing a difficult save from Bruno Brígido.

However, Brígido couldn't hold onto the ball, allowing Nuno Santos to pounce on the rebound and put the visitors into the lead.

In the end, the goa would be enough to give them the 2-1 victory, and this now means Sporting CP maintains their one-point lead over their rivals in the second tier, with an additional game yet to be played, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated showdown at the José Alvalade Stadium.
