Omurwa looked assured all game as Estrela overcame Familicao to keep their run going ahead of a crunch fixture against Sporting Lisbon later this week.

Harambee Stars defender Johnstone Omurwa was on song as Estrela Amaradora had enough to beat Familicao in a Liga Portugal match played on Sunday evening.

Omurwa looked assured on the night especially in possession, being accurate with 65 of his 70 attempted passes, as well as four out of six attempted long balls.

He nearly scored a goal himself, producing a shot on target that had an expected scoring ratio of 0.1. Defensively, he managed to win both of his attempted aerial duels.

The hosts needed an Andre Luiz goal in the 74th minute to give them all the three points at the expense of ten man Familicao, who played for 57 minutes with 10 men after Ricielli was dismissed for committing a professional foul on Leo Jaba.

The result now means that Estrela are 9th on 11 points, 11 adrift of league leaders Benfica and five above the relegation places.

They will now face Sporting Lisbon in their next match, and Omurwa will be keen to test his capabilities against the Portuguese giants having already played against Porto and Benfica earlier in the season.

In Sweden, Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma, who always features as AIK’s first choice left back, did not play a part as the 2018 Swedish league champions were held to a 1-1 draw by Halmstad on Sunday.

Viktor Granath put Halmstad ahead in the 45th minute, but Ioannis Peters equalized for the hosts from the penalty spot in the 74th minute to give them a crucial point in their battle for survival.

With two league games left to play, AIK will need just one point and hope other results go their way to guarantee automatic safety from the drop this season.
