Harambee Stars defender returns to Gor Mahia after successful stint in Asia

Omija played for the club at youth level before leaving for Kariobangi Sharks and then a stint abroad with Oman, where he won the Kings Cup last season.

Kenyan international defender Alphonce Omija has made a return to Gor Mahia following the conclusion of his contract with Dhofar Club in Oman.

During his time with Dhofar, Omija seamlessly transitioned from the Kenyan league and quickly became a pivotal player for the team. His contributions were instrumental in Dhofar's triumph in the His Majesty Sultan Cup.

Capable of playing as a wide right center back, defensive midfielder, right back and central center back, Omija’s versatility will be key for Gor Mahia who preparing for their return to the CAF Champions League after a five-year absence 

 K'Ogalo will commence their Champions League campaign next month against South Sudanese champions El Merreikh Bentiu, with the victor set to face record champions Al Ahly.

Gor Mahia's recent performance in the CECAFA Kagame Cup highlighted the need for bolstering their squad, particularly in defense, as they failed to win any of their matches and conceded in all three games played.

 Omija's return is expected to significantly strengthen Gor Mahia's defense and provide essential leadership as they embark on their continental duties.

Omija's impressive performance on his debut for the Harambee Stars, where he effectively contained Brighton winger Simon Adingra in a goalless draw against Ivory Coast, underscores his defensive prowess. 

The former Kariobangi Sharks defender also has experience playing for Kenya’s U17 and U20 national teams and participated in the COSAFA tournament in South Africa as part of the Emerging Stars squad.
