Harambee Stars' goalkeeper Byrne Omondi nears return after seven weeks out due to injury sustained during a Kenya-Russia friendly.

Harambee Stars and KCB FC goalkeeper Byrne Omondi is edging closer to a triumphant return to the pitch after enduring a seven-week layoff due to an injury sustained while on national team duty.

Omondi's journey back to fitness is well underway, and fans can look forward to his imminent availability for selection.

The former Tusker FC gloveman embarked on his path to recovery as he resumed training on Monday.

This marked a significant step forward in his rehabilitation process following the unfortunate injury he suffered while representing Kenya in a friendly match against Russia.

The incident took place on Monday 16  October during a thrilling encounter in Antalya, Turkey, which eventually ended in a 2-2 draw.

In the early stages of that fateful match, Omondi's valiant attempt to make a save took a toll on his physical well-being, forcing him to leave the pitch prematurely, evoking concern among fans and supporters alike.

"Kenya 1, Byrne Omondi came back to train with the team with his moon boot in a sack after recovering from an injury he suffered while on national duty," the club declared in an official statement, signaling a glimmer of hope for the promising goalkeeper's return.

Omondi's injury was not only a setback for him personally but also a blow for the Harambee Stars, who had begun to rely on his goalkeeping prowess.

Since his debut against Pakistan in June, Omondi had swiftly established himself as a dependable first-choice goalkeeper, earning the trust of the coaching staff and fans alike.

In 2023, he enjoyed a meteoric rise with KCB, securing his position as the club's top goalkeeper, displacing the seasoned Gabriel Andika.

What makes Omondi's return even more eagerly anticipated is his multifaceted skill set.

The young goalkeeper possesses the ability to command his area with authority, demonstrating an exceptional aptitude for handling aerial balls.

His calm and composed demeanor when in possession of the ball, combined with his exemplary distribution, sets him apart as a modern goalkeeper who can contribute both defensively and in building attacking plays.

Furthermore, Omondi's remarkable shot-stopping abilities have not gone unnoticed, cementing his reputation as one of Kenya's most promising talents between the posts.
