FOOTBALL Harambee Stars hit by travel hitch ahead of Four-Nations tournament

This means Kenya will now play fewer games if they finally travel for the competition.

Harambee Stars plans to travel for the Four-Nations tournament in Mauritius have been hit by a travel challenge.

Kenya were set to travel on Saturday but will now hit the runway on Monday, which means they will play fewer games than earlier planned.

According to Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa, the problem arose due to Kenya Airways' move to reschedule Harambee Stars travel plans.

"We have failed to hit the runway because of Kenya Airways’ mistakes, they rescheduled our flight at the eleventh hour, meaning we will now travel on Monday," Mwendwa said.

"We will now play two matches, and for me, I think it is okay."

The change in travel arrangements means that Kenya will now play two matches instead of the planned three due to FIFA regulations on player rest days between matches.

Kenya were set to play Djibouti on Sunday, June 11, but that means the match will not take place due to the travel hiccup experienced by Engin Firat’s charges.

The Four-Nation tournament will be held in Mauritius from June 11th to June 18th, 2023.

This is the second engagement for Harambee Stars since FIFA lifted the suspension it had imposed on the country.

The first match for Kenya after the suspension was against Iran, which the East Africans lost by a 2-1 margin, in the previous international window.

Meanwhile, the June tournament is meant to prepare Harambee Stars for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.
