Omar scored his first goal of the season after releasing a ferocious shot from a free-kick as Police soared to a 2-0 win over Ulinzi Stars.

Kenyan international Abud Omar has revealed his pride at getting off the mark for Kenya Police with an exquisite goal scored from a free-kick situation during the side’s 2-0 win over Ulinzi Stars on Friday afternoon.

Omar released a ferocious shot into the back of the net after surprisingly opting to take the free-kick, instead of Kenneth Muguna, to score the second goal for the law enforcers, a result that has now taken them to the top half of the table.

Speaking after the match, Omar revealed that he was happy to have helped Police finally overcome the jinx of having Ulinzi Stars being their bogey team ever since winning promotion to the top flight in 2021.

“This game was important to us because it was a derby, being Police against the soldiers,” Omar told Pulse Sports. “Ever since Police got promoted, we have never beaten Ulinzi so it meant a lot for us,” he added.

“It was a must-win for us and also to bring an end to that indifferent record. For us to end the jinx and for me to get a goal, I am very happy.”

Omar produced a man of the match display, with his trickery at left-back setting the tone for the side’s swash-buckling attacking display in the second half.

The defender has revealed that it was one of his best performances since signing for Kenya Police, something he hopes can continue.

“I would argue that it is one of the best because we have started jelling again as a team. We had started rather poorly," he added.

“The league is not over, I might have another good game this season. The team is playing as a unit, so, I was happy to play against one of the biggest teams and I enjoyed myself a lot.”

Kenya Police will now have a two week break to keep working to correct their weaknesses before resuming action against Nzoia Sugar on November 26.
