A look back at Kenya's 2013 COSAFA Cup journey showcasing emerging talents and strategic plays under coach Adel Amrouche.

Eleven years ago, Kenya embarked on a memorable campaign at the 2013 COSAFA Cup held in Zambia.

Despite an early exit the squad showed flashes of brilliance that underscored their potential in African football.

The tournament served not only as a platform for showcasing emerging talent but also highlighted the ongoing evolution of Kenyan football, driven by a blend of seasoned professionals and promising newcomers.

Kenya's tournament opener was a dramatic 2-2 draw against Lesotho, a game that saw Harambee Stars come from behind twice.

The following day, the team secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Eswatini, with goals that showcased their tactical sharpness and on-field coordination.

However, their hopes were dashed in the final group match, where they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Botswana.

The 2017 squad was a mixture of experience and fresh talent, orchestrated by coach Adel Amrouche.

Among the notable players were goalkeepers Duncan Ochieng, Wilson Obungu, and Jerim Onyango, who brought a wealth of experience between the posts.

The defensive line was anchored by stalwarts like Brian Mandela, David Owino, and Musa Mohammed who were instrumental in solidifying the backline.

Midfield dynamics were provided by John Mwangi, a young talent who had shown promise at Mathare United, and David Seda from AFC Leopards, both bringing energy and creativity to the midfield.

Veteran midfielder Collins Okoth, returning to the national team after a period of rediscovered form with Tusker FC, provided the necessary grit and experience in the center of the park.

The attack was led by seasoned striker Allan Wanga, who, along with Kennedy Otieno and Wesley Kemboi, posed a constant threat to opposing defenses.

Their efforts were complemented by the dual threat of Rama Salim, whose versatility allowed him to pivot between attacking midfield and a striking role, creating multiple options for coach Amrouche's tactical setups.

While they did not progress past the group stages the tournament was a crucial learning curve for the team.

It highlighted the strategic acumen of Amrouche who successfully integrated new players with veterans crafting a team that could compete admirably on the regional stage.
