The Tanzanian heavyweights are set for a financial windfall after their impressive continental campaign.

Yanga SC’s progress to the CAF Confederation Cup final is not only a big on-field achievement, but the club is also set to reap big financial rewards.

The Tanzanian Mainland Premier League title winners are this season’s finalists and will square it out with Algeria’s USM Alger.

The Jangwani club made it to the ultimate stage after seeing off South Africa’s Marumo Gallants in the semi-final. On the other hand, Alger booked the date with the CECAFA region club after beating ASEC Mimosas from Ivory Coast.

Meanwhile, this season’s participants in the CAF competitions – the Champions League and the Confederation Cup – are set to reap improved financial packages.

Earlier in the year, CAF president Patrice Motsepe stated that the prize money was going to be increased, and the new monetary structure saw an increase of 40 percent for the two competitions.

The increase was motivated by the need to make the competitions more competitive and self-sustaining.

The Champions League winner is set to get $4 million [Ksh550m], which is an increase from the $2.5 million [Ksh344m] the previous winners pocketed. The Confederation Cup prize money for the winner was increased from $1.25 million [Ksh165m] to $2m [Ksh275m].

The runners-up in the Champions League category are set to get $2 million, while the semi-finalists are assured of getting $1.2 million.

The Confederation Cup runners-up are going to pocket $1 million [Ksh137.6m], which means Yanga, by just reaching the final, will get millions flowing into their account.

This is in addition to what they will earn by retaining the league title.

Already, they have been promised Ksh1.1 million for each goal they score in the final by Tanzania president Samia Suluhu, which is enough motivation for the club to fight tooth and nail and win the continental cup.

They have impressively advanced this far and could write a bright chapter in their history by winning the cup in their maiden final.
