The England captain insists that simply being at a club like Bayern has enhanced his aura and global respect, something he lacked during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.
Bayern move elevates Kane’s status
Kane, who has been in scintillating form with 32 goals in 37 games for Bayern this season, believes his transfer to Germany has transformed how he is perceived in world football.
)
While on England duty at Tottenham’s training centre, he reflected on the stark contrast between his current and previous situations.
The former Spurs captain said, “I felt like, probably here at Spurs, no matter how many goals I scored, unless you win the title and the Champions League, you’re not going to be in those conversations.”
)
“I scored over 40 goals last season, but obviously, I was never going to win the Ballon d’Or because we didn’t win the team trophies.”
However, at Bayern, the stakes are higher, and Kane now feels a greater sense of responsibility and expectation.
Kane’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or
With Bayern still competing in the Champions League and Kane already scoring 10 goals, he believes this season could be his moment.
)
The England captain said, “For something like that, you have to win enough team trophies to be considered and probably score 40-odd goals, but that is a possibility this season.
“Just being at a club like Bayern Munich has helped push me on even more, confidence-wise and responsibility-wise. When you’re playing in these types of teams where you’re expected to score 30, 40 a season, that’s an expectation I like to have.
)
“It almost puts more pressure on myself to perform. I feel like I’ve definitely got better, I've improved, and maybe the 'aura' of me as a player is a bit more respected than what it has been in the past, because you’re playing in big games, big nights."
As Bayern prepare for their Champions League quarter-final clash against Inter, Kane knows that delivering in big games and big nights is what separates Ballon d’Or winners from the rest. Whether he secures the golden prize remains to be seen, but he is certainly in the conversation.
