Despite making eight changes from the draw against Manchester City on Tuesday, Real Madrid grabbed a victory against Getafe.

Real Madrid put up a professional performance to beat Getafe 1-0 as they look to finish as high as possible with the league title all but gone to Barcelona.

With the midweek clash against Manchester City in mind, Carlo Ancelotti made wholesale changes, meaning there was a place in the starting lineup for Hazard, who made only his second start of the season.

How it happened

The game started in a celebratory mood, with Getafe giving the hosts the guard of honour, or Pasillo, as it is called in Spain, for their Copa del Rey triumph last weekend.

The hosts then went on to present the newly won trophy to Santiago Bernabeu, with Nacho and Luka Modric taking point.

Carlo's side were slow to get out of their shells, with the visitors looking brighter earlier on, but they soon found their footing and started to better control the game.

However, they barely managed to fashion out quality chances, as the first-half ended scoreless.

Real Madrid raised the intensity in the second-half, but Getafe also had their chances in transition.

The deadlock was broken in the 70th minute when Marco Asensio fired past David Soria. The scoreline remained 1-0 despite efforts from both sides to change it.

The win takes Real Madrid back to second, albeit temporarily, with Atletico Madrid set to play tomorrow, while Getafe remain in the murky waters of relegation.
