Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has thrown his weight behind Erik ten Hag amid sack rumours.

Gary Neville has told Manchester United's owners that manager Erik ten Hag should be allowed to stay at Old Trafford.

There's talk that Ten Hag might get fired this summer, but Neville believes the Dutch tactician has done enough to stay in the job.

What next for Erik ten Hag?

Right now, Manchester United co-owners Ineos are considering whether to fire Ten Hag or give him more time. This decision comes after their FA Cup triumph over Premier League rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

“There’s no doubt Ten Hag’s FA Cup win has put Manchester United in an awkward position. This has been an unacceptably poor Premier League season for the club,” Neville said on The Overlap.

“Of course, Ten Hag will argue that he hasn’t had anything like a consistent enough squad to pick from, especially his back four. But even so, the lack of control in many games has been alarming.

“And yet he has two cups in two years. He has proven he can win trophies with this side. He has matched Jose Mourinho as the most successful United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson. I think he’s earned the right to go on.
