Manchester United's new manager Ruben Amorim addressed Marcus Rashford's extended mediocre run of form.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has promised to work on returning Marcus Rashford to his best self; however, he said the 27-year-old had to take the first step in this journey.

The Carrington graduate’s career is akin to a forex trading chart, a trend of crests and troughs. His last bull run came in the 2022/23 season when he scored 30 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions—not including the three he scored at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

He has been bearish ever since, managing a paltry 13 goals in 61 appearances since the start of the 2023/24 season. He lost his place on the England national team and was not in the squad for the Euros last summer.

What Amorim said

The Red Devils number 10 had the honour of being the first goal scorer in the Amorim era at Manchester United, finding the back of the net inside two minutes.

Like the rest of his Manchester United career, however, that incredible high was followed by a lacklustre remaining 88 minutes of regular time.

Ahead of the Europa League clash against Young Boys, Amorim was quizzed about the Rashford situation, and he spoke candidly.

He explained that the 60-capped England international is not always deployed in his best position and that he and his backroom staff will work hard on returning him to top form. However, most importantly, he stressed that Rashford was ultimately responsible for his form and must first work hard before the set-up surrounding him meets him halfway.

“I will try to help him,” Amorim said, per Sky Sports. “That position (number 9) is not the best for him, especially in a game like that (vs. Ipswich) where he had to kick the ball forward so many times and he was fighting with two giants.

“We will try to find the best solution for him, as with the other players. Marcus, he has to be Marcus, first of all, to return to that moment, and then he will have the support of the club and all the staff and all the fans because he is a Manchester United boy. But he has to be the first one to really, really want it.”

Meanwhile, the Red Devils have entered the transfer market as they seek to bolster their offensive ranks in the January window. According to reports, Victor Boniface and Omar Marmoush lead this list.

Should the club indeed make what would most definitely be a big splash for either player in the winter market, Rashford has less than two months to carve a sizable part for himself in Amorim's set-up.
