Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca hailed Cole Palmer's humility and hunger after the 22-year-old's record-breaking display against Brighton.

Palmer became the first Premier League player to score four goals in the first half of a game, leading Chelsea to a 4-2 victory. This win propelled the Blues within a point of Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the table.

Palmer's stunning start to the season – six goals and four assists in six games – has Maresca convinced that the youngster will remain grounded despite the accolades.

Maresca backs Palmer to remain humble despite superstar status

"I said to Cole that he scored four goals, but he could have scored two or three more," Maresca said post-match.

Maresca, who previously coached Palmer at Manchester City's under-23s, praised the player's unwavering humility.

"I know Cole from many years ago... The best thing he has is that in the way he is today as a boy, he was three or four years ago.

"So goals, assists, the best player of the Premier League — this doesn't change who he is."

"He is a simple guy, a humble guy, and this for me is the most important thing."
