The Kenyan international has been at the heart of Tusker's challenge for the title.

Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano has heaped praise on his captain, Humphrey Mieno for his performances this season, which have helped the club compete on all fronts.

Mieno was brilliant in a Man-of-the-Match display in the middle of the park during their 0-0 draw with Gor Mahia last Sunday, producing a typical mature display.

He controlled the tempo of Tusker’s midfield with his natural composure, ability to be a step ahead of everyone else, press resistance, and eye for penetrative passes.

“He is my captain, he knows what he is doing,” he said. “He is always motivated according to the game situation.”

“He is always on top of everything, he is ahead of his time. I am happy for him. He is a disciplined player who is very committed. I like him because he is a player who always carries the team.”

Mieno has transitioned from a central or attacking midfielder to an equally good screener of the back four. He dictates how Tusker plays from deep.

The former Gor Mahia midfielder has earned plaudits for his performances at the base of midfield this season.

It even caught the attention of former Arsenal and Real Madrid star Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togolese legend reserved the highest of praise for the Tusker FC skipper, saying watching the midfielder reminded him of his former Manchester City teammate Yaya Toure.

The former striker watched the FKF Premier League match between Tusker and FC Talanta at the Ruaraka Grounds where Mieno bossed the midfield and gave two assists.

“The captain of Tusker FC is a very, very good player. He reminds me of my time in Man City of a player like Yaya Toure. He knows when to play one touch, when to dribble, when to dive into the opponent.

"He is such a great player to watch and I heard he played for the national team and I am not surprised because he has the quality to be in the national team,” said Adebayor after the game.
