The former Nigerian striker emphasised that Labbadia's experience represents an improvement over previous coaches.

Former Nigerian international Johnathan Akpoborie has expressed his strong support for the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) decision to appoint Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

Labbadia's appointment was officially confirmed by the NFF on Tuesday, taking the reins following Finidi George's departure in June.

Akpoborie is confident that the NFF made the right choice, "Bruno was a prolific striker; we were adversaries in the Bundesliga," Akpoborie reminisced on Brila.net.

"He played for many big clubs in Germany and is an outstanding player and a well-known coach there."

Akpoborie went further, highlighting Labbadia's experience as an upgrade on previous coaches, "Appointing him as the Super Eagles coach is an upgrade compared to the names that have handled the team in the past," he declared.

The former Nigerian striker also expressed his belief in Labbadia's ability to unlock the full potential of the Super Eagles squad.

"We were just hoping now, because football, you never can tell," Akpoborie acknowledged the uncertainties in football.

"But all those things apart, they've picked somebody capable of actually handling our national team for a very long time," he added.

Akpoborie's optimism extends to the team's future under Labbadia's guidance, "This is somebody that can handle our national team, and I'm hoping that the chemistry between him and the players will come together, and we'll see good football from Nigeria," he concluded.

Labbadia's first test will be against Benin Republic on September 7th at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
