Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh has hit back at Nigerians who have criticised Augustine Eguavoen.
Eguavoen has come under criticism from fans following the Super Eagles defeat to Rwanda in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

‘We wonder why they don’t perform’ - Ex-Super Eagles coach demands salary increment for indigenous managers
Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has called on the Nigerian Football Federation NFF to increase the salary of Nigerian coaches.
Oliseh’s message to Nigerians
Oliseh has praised Eguavoen for stepping in to help the Super Eagles through their current situation and underlined that the team's problems are not his fault.
Speaking to News Central, the former Super Eagles coach said, “The situation we found ourselves [in], Eguavoen is not responsible at all.
“He is trying to salvage what has been there before he came. If you are Nigerian, the best you can do for your fatherland is to support the person in charge.
“If you like or you don’t like him, he is not representing his own family; he is representing you at home. So, give him the moral support.”
Meanwhile, Oliseh has also backed Eguavoen to lead the Super Eagles to glory as Nigeria look to qualify for the World Cup.
