The defender has explained why a French bulldog owned by his Manchester City teammate was named after him.
English centre-back John Stones has revealed the inside story about a French bulldog named after him at Manchester City.
Stones’ teammate Bernardo Silva got the dog earlier this year and bizarrely named it after his friend and teammate.
The 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder bought the dog with his partner Ines Degenar Tomaz and decided to call it ‘John Stones’.
"This is John. We really wanted to have a dog. He was named after my good friend John Stones,” Silva stated according to The Sun.
Stones provides a backstory to the name
In a follow-up to the story, Stones has now provided more insight and said his friend and teammate ‘must like’ him.
“He (Silva) said to me, 'If I get a dog John, I’m going to call it John, John Stones." according to a report from the Sun.
"I was like, ‘Alright, why?’ He said, 'Because I want every time I get my dog or shout my dog, I’ll think of you and telling you to come to me like I own you'.
speaking further, the 28-year-old former Everton defender added;
"Anyway, the next minute he gets a dog. And I said 'Oh nice Bernardo, what you got?' 'I've got a French Bulldog and I've called it John like I said I would'. "And I said 'Oh my god, here we go'.
"We've got a good relationship, me and Bernardo. So for him to have a dog and for his Mrs to accept calling it John as well, he must like me
