The Italian will not rush the teenage defender despite the club’s injury worries at the back.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has urged patience with young defender Aaron Anselmino following his recall from a loan spell at Boca Juniors.

The 19-year-old centre-back returned to Stamford Bridge on Friday, but Maresca has indicated that he will not be rushed into first-team action.

Anselmino joined Chelsea in the summer for a fee of £15.6 million and was immediately loaned to Boca Juniors, where he made 18 appearances. However, he has not played since November 11 due to a hamstring injury.

Maresca stressed the importance of allowing the teenager time to adapt to his new surroundings and recover from his injury.

“He’s another talent, another good player,” said Maresca on Friday. “Now, the most important thing is that he arrives here, adapts himself, finds a house, and settles in the right way.

“Then we need to give him time because when you come from the other part of the world, you need to adapt.

“You need to see a new world, a new culture. For sure we are going to try to help him to adapt as soon as possible.”

While Anselmino's immediate future remains uncertain, Chelsea's defensive injury crisis could open the door for a quicker integration into the first team.

With Wesley Fofana potentially ruled out for the rest of the season and Benoit Badiashile also sidelined, the Blues are short of options at centre-back.
