La Roja are in the final of the European Championships; however, if one were cast two years into the past and asked how they have played to accomplish this, many guesses would have been inaccurate.

Luis de la Fuente’s style is a far cry from Luis Enrique's—the erstwhile manager’s—possession-obsessed leanings and the Tiki Taka system La Roja dominated international football through the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Although the 63-year-old coach has not gone completely rogue by playing on the back foot, as they still maintain the culture of dominance and expansivity, it is the direct nature of De la Fuente’s side that is his unique marker.
Spain in this tournament have not been obsessed with total control and are willing to play quickly and directly to their electrifying wingers, Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.
The two youngsters have been integral to Luis de la Fuente's new-faced Spain, and the former England international is wary of the pair as his country face La Roja in the European Championships final.
What Rooney said
The former Manchester United forward warned of the threat Spain posed on the flanks, before going on to compare the Athletic Club half of that pair, Nico Williams, to his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
"England will need to defend well on the flanks against Spain because their brilliant two young wingers provide their main threat,” Rooney said. “Lamine Yamal will be full of confidence after his brilliant goal against France and he reminds me a bit of how I was at Euro 2004 – a teenager having the time of his life.
