Lamine Yamal has clapped back at Rafael van der Vaart in epic fashion using a Nigerian song.
Lamine Yamal has hit back at ex-Netherlands footballer and pundit Rafael van der Vaart.
The 17-year-old Barcelona sensation had the last laugh after van der Vaart took an unexpected swipe at him following Spain’s dramatic UEFA Nations League quarter-final win over the Netherlands.
Despite Spain edging out their Dutch rivals on penalties after an electrifying 5-5 aggregate scoreline, the post-match conversation wasn’t just about the football.
)
Van der Vaart had bizarrely criticised Yamal after the first leg, calling him “superficial” and bizarrely taking issue with how low the teenager wears his shorts.
"These are things I notice: I see things that are starting to bother me a bit. Pants a little lower, not making much effort, gestures a little superficial," Van der Vaart said on NOS.
)
"No matter how good you are, at that age, you have to prove it every minute and in every game. But that doesn’t change the fact that Hato simply had him in his pocket."
However, after the Blaugrana no. 19 scored a breathtaking goal in extra time, the Spanish prodigy wasted no time in pulling his shorts even lower in a pointed celebration, sending social media into an absolute meltdown.
Yamal channels Afrobeats superstar Rema in cold-blooded response to Van der Vaart

If that wasn’t enough, he took things up a notch with a viral Instagram post that has fans in stitches as he captioned:
"Pants down, a goal, missed penalty AND IN THE SEMIFINALS HEHEHEHE GO SPAIN! "
)
The Barcelona wonderkid posted a cheeky nod to Nigerian music superstar Rema by quoting lyrics from his hit song "HEHEHE," off his 2024 HEIS album.

Yamal used the track as the audio of the Instagram post in a clear message to Van der Vaart that he’s unbothered by the noise.
The post which currently has over 4 million likes has since gone viral, with fans flooding his comments section in admiration.
"They always hate you and you always shut their mouths with what you do," one user wrote, while another added, "9ja vibe Dey the background 😂🇳🇬 hehehehe."
One other comment read: “Song choice is cold damn.”
)
Yamal, who continues to garner plaudits for his maturity and footballing brilliance, has cemented himself as not just a generational talent but also a serious entertainer.
With Spain now set to face France in the semi-finals on 5 June, Barcelona’s teenage star will be looking to silence his critics once more.
