Victor Osimhen has received high praise from his ex-teammate and former Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne.
Former Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne has showered praise on Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for his superb form this season.
The 24-year-old is the current top scorer in Serie A with 13 goals in 15 games so far, leading the team to the top of Serie A.
The Nigerian striker is currently in his third season with Napoli and he played with Insigne who was the club captain in his first two seasons before the Italian left to join MLS club Toronto FC.
Insigne hails Osimhen
According to TuttoAtalanta Insigne gave an interview to La Gazzetta Dello Sport commenting on Napoli’s season so far including the high-flying Osimhen.
“Osimhen is improving visibly and his potential is coming out,” Insigne said while speaking on his teammate of two years.
“Spalletti is enhancing his unique characteristics such as athleticism in the air, progression, and coordination. I’m really happy for Victor, he’s a very good person,” the 31-year-old continued.
Insigne came through the ranks at Napoli and made his first-team debut in 2009 but would officially be part of the team in 2012 after spending three years out on loan.
Insigne on Napoli’s Scudetto charge
The diminutive winger was a key player for Il Partenopei for a decade until he left the club in the summer of 2022.
Insigne also spoke on Napoli’s current form and their chances of winning the Scudetto that has eluded them since 1990.
"I won't be the one to say too much, we've been through too much and I prefer to take refuge in superstition. But I'm the first fan, I follow them from afar and after every game I send my compliments to everyone," Insigne said.
The 31-year-old became captain of Napoli in February 2019 after Marek Hamsik’s departure and was part of the Napoli team that tried and failed to win the Scudetto on multiple occasions.
