Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick reacted to Lionel Messi's comments on Barcelona's start to the season.

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has reacted to praise his work attracted from the club's foremost star, Lionel Messi.

Flick took over as Barcelona's head coach this summer and has set the club on a path to ascension after a season and summer that seemingly created a chasm between the Blaugrana and their thriving rivals Real Madrid.

What Messi said

The Catalan giants lost the LALIGA title and were embarrassed out of Europe again, which extended their lack of European silverware to eight years.

Also, in the summer, Los Blancos, who collected every possible trophy but the Copa del Rey last season, acquired Kylian Mbappe, the consensus best player in the world.

Club legend Xavi Hernandez was embarrassed out after finishing 10 points behind Real Madrid, and the German tactician, who previously turned down Joan Laporta when approached for the role three years ago, was hired.

Flick’s effect has been immediate and positive. Barcelona lead LALIGA with six points, albeit having played a game more than Real Madrid—who they thumped 4-0 in El Clasico—and registered a statement victory against the ghost of years past Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Seemingly keeping tabs with his former club from the warm-weathered Miami, Messi, after a mixed end to his team's MLS season, lauded Barcelona's performances this season, stating that he was not surprised by the level they are showing.

What Flick said

With his players back from the international break, Flick prepares his side for the historically daunting trip to Abanca Balaidos, as they aim to return to winning ways against Celta Vigo, following the disappointing 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad just before the intermission.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the clash, Flick was made aware of Messi’s comments, and he received them with excitement and poise. The German regards the club's record scorer as the greatest player in history and is happy the Argentine acknowledged his work.

“It’s an honour to hear the best player in history say that he likes this Barça. He follows the team closely; he has his heart set on this club; that means a lot to the youngsters and to the team,” Flick said, per GSFN.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will be without Lamine Yamal for the game against Os Celestes tonight, as he is still nursing an injury. The Blaugrana’s only two league defeats this season have come in games Lamine Yamal did not start: Osasuna and Real Sociedad.
