Rangers fans are proud of what they saw from Cyriel Dessers and want to see him stick around at the club after his impressive strike against Manchester United

Rangers fans have expressed their admiration for Cyriel Dessers following his stunning equaliser against Manchester United in the Europa League.

The Nigerian international's late goal, which came in the 88th minute in the 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, showed his talent and determination, even though it ultimately wasn't enough to secure a point for his team.

In a thrilling match at Old Trafford, Dessers entered as a substitute and quickly made a big difference for the injury-ravaged Gers.

After Manchester United took the lead with an own goal from Rangers' goalkeeper Jack Butland, Dessers received a long ball from defender James Tavernier.

He skillfully controlled it before unleashing a powerful volley that found the back of the net, momentarily giving Rangers hope for a draw.

However, just as it seemed they would escape with a point, Bruno Fernandes scored a stoppage-time winner for United, sealing the match at 2-1.

Dessers continued his super-sub display for Rangers.

Following the game, Rangers supporters took to social media to praise Dessers for his performance and to express their desire for him to remain with the club amid ongoing transfer rumours.

One fan noted, “The lad always speaks well, and his numbers speak for themselves. I hope he sticks around.” Another supporter remarked on his resilience despite past criticisms: “He bottled it not taking a pen in the cup final but needs to move on from it. It’s in the past and he’s still trying his best for the club… need to give him a break.”

Cyriel Dessers has 17 goals across competitions but remains a divided figure for the Gers.

Dessers' goal was his 150th career goal and was celebrated by fans who recognised his contributions to the team. “It’s hard to dislike Dessers; yes, he misses sitters but scores belters and carries himself so well especially in front of the media.”

Another fan commented. Another supporter added encouragement, saying, “Chin up big man, a brilliant strike and makeshift finishing 11; we’re gutted but very proud!”

Despite the disappointment of the loss, Dessers remained optimistic about his performance and that of his teammates. He reflected on the emotional rollercoaster of the match:

“It is difficult to take at the end, especially because of the rollercoaster of emotions at the end,” he said. Dessers emphasised pride in their effort against such a formidable opponent: “We can be very proud of our performance... Young guys had to come in and I think they did an unbelievable job.”
