Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has come to the rescue of a desperate fan before Shabana host Kenya Police in a league clash on Saturday

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has promised to fund an air ticket for a football fan to travel from Nairobi to watch the FKF Premier League clash between Shabana FC and Kenya Police at the Raila Odinga Stadium.

Shabana host Kenya Police in Homa Bay on Saturday with both sides looking for their first win of the season after securing just one point a piece from their opening two games.

With Shabana enjoying a big following, it seems one fan does not want to be left behind but lacks the means to get to Homa Bay on time from Nairobi and he made a special request to the governor.

“Kuna airport Homa Bay County (Is there an airport in Homa Bay County)?? Kama kunayo si mtu aambie governor Gladys Wanga anilipie tu flight ya kwenda and back nikawatch game ya Kenya Police FC na Shabana FC .... Is that too much to ask jameni.

(If it is there, then can someone inform Governor Gladys Wanga to pay for me a return ticket so that I can go and watch the Shabana vs Kenya Police match). Babu wa ajabu Babu Owino saidia jameni,” said the fan while also tagging Embakasi East MP Babu Owino in his request on X.

He got a swift response from the governor who offered to fund his travel to Homa Bay.

“You have a renegade flight to Kabunde airport from me. Arriving Sunday afte (afternoon) departing Monday afte (afternoon). If you’re game send a DM with your details,” governor Wanga responded.

It is a gesture that melted the hearts of many followers and the fan will hope that he does not run out of time to watch the match since contrary to the governor’s statement, the match will be played on Saturday and not Sunday.

Shabana turned to Raila Odinga Stadium as the venue for their home matches after the Gusii Stadium was closed for renovation by the Kisii county government and hosted their league opener against Murang’a Seal where 4,335 fans, including the governor, turned up to witness the match.

Shabana lost the match 1-0, succumbing to a late goal, before drawing 1-1 with FC Talanta and coach Sammy Okoth is under pressure to deliver all three points on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Police are also under the scrutiny after starting the season with a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks before Posta Rangers thumped them 3-0 and after their big spending, coach Francis Baraza cannot afford another bad result.
