Homeboyz lost 1-0 to Tusker thanks to an unfortunate howler by keeper Farouk Shikalo despite creating more clear-cut chances.

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo believes his side was unlucky not to get the win over Tusker in a match played at the Ruaraka Grounds on Sunday.

“Unfortunately, we lost due to bad luck. Tusker were compact and were very disciplined, but luck was also not on our side.

Homeboyz were beaten 1-0 thanks to an unfortunate howler by Farouk Shikalo who fumbled a Michael Oduor shot into his own net.

“Farouk made an unfortunate mistake. When the keeper makes that mistake, it puts us in a difficult position after being on top. We tried to rectify that mistake but it was unfortunate."

Homeboyz had been on a good run of goalscoring form heading into the fixture. They had found the net 14 times in their last five fixtures and although they created a lot of chances, they could not capitalize.

“We have had injuries to key attacking players like (Moses) Mudavadi which has been our undoing. We have had fresh legs but still, they have not managed to find their rhythm, which has been very unfortunate.”

Homeboyz are ninth after 28 matches played, having amassed 39 points. They can still qualify for continental competition against all the odds for the first time in their history by winning the FKF Cup against AFC Leopards in a fortnight’s time.
