You are fired: Super Eagles legend Kanu's Enyimba sack youngest Nigerian coach after disastrous winless run
Nwankwo Kanu's Enyimba and their 32-year-old coach have gone their separate ways.
The People’s Elephant secured their first win in 11 matches, sealing the much-needed victory with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over the Black Bulls in Uyo.
While Joseph Atule stole the spotlight with two goals, Ideye’s strike in the second half, extending Enyimba’s lead to 3-1, marked his first goal for the club and in the CAFCC since joining.
The veteran striker, who played a key role in the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2013 victory, received high praise from Eguma.
“Brown Ideye, we all know him as a household name. His presence is a big plus to the team. He might not be fully fit because he just joined the team, but it’s a gradual process. In the near future, he will add more to the team,” Eguma remarked during his post-match analysis.
Reflecting on the significance of Enyimba's first win in the competition after three matches, the seasoned coach added;
“I will say that this result is like a New Year gift to Nigerians because Nigerians have been yearning for this kind of result in the continent.”
With Eguma at the helm and Ideye making his mark, Enyimba fans are hopeful for a turnaround in the club’s fortunes having revived their fading campaign in the CAFCC.
